Mark’s Testimonial
I have been a client of Elizabeth Handy for approximately a year and am providing this letter as both a personal recommendation and as a thank you for the miraculous success that she facilitated.
The first time that I visited Elizabeth, I was sitting there as a dejected, chronically depressed (at least 20 years), suicidal 35 year old man who had been on various medications for the past 14 years for Anxiety, Depression, GERD, and ADD. Sometime during the middle of this first session, Elizabeth made a statement similar to this: “you’ll be off those medications by the time we’re finished”. Well, as one can imagine what a depressed pessimist thought, I said to myself, “yeah right! I’ve been struggling for over 20 years with these issues and my meds have been my only support—as little as it is, and she thinks I can get off of them”. She indicated “her clients get better and get off medications”. She was so sure and positive that she could do this and make me better that I was inclined to be convinced; and she did
exactly that.
Elizabeth combined Cognitive Behavioral Retraining therapy with EMDR and implemented the ‘Retraining’ aspect into the ‘Reprocessing’ sequence in the Template for EMDR. EMDR is an amazing scientific discovery in and of itself but Elizabeth’s adeptness, incite and perceptiveness for understanding and empathizing with my personal plight astonished me every time I would finish a session. Her technique and style taught me how to work through my negative and destructive past traumas and how to develop a new set of perceptions and tools in order to function optimally. Granted the EMDR process can stand alone for what I consider “the cure” but now after having other EMDR Therapists process with me, there is no comparison with Elizabeth’s skill and I now understand that the Therapist is a very crucial component to successful EMDR processing. Elizabeth’s skill, aptitude, and her ability to facilitate and guide the EMDR process to get to the root of triggers and internal conflict is consistently phenomenal.
Fast forward a year later and approximately 35 visits and 30 sessions of EMDR later, I now define my life as “Pre EMDR and Post EMDR” because Elizabeth’s ability to facilitate this therapy completely and forever changed my life. I am no longer on any medications, consistently emotionally stable, excited about living life, no depression, no suicidal thoughts, no more indigestion, I sleep soundly every night
with no nightmares or violence exhibited, I am consistent and highly employable, focused and balanced. In fact, after just 2 months of EMDR therapy with Elizabeth, my sister saw such a dramatic change in me that see began treatment as well and also seen identical improvements in herself. I now feel so secure with myself and abilities because I continue to wake up day after day and feel the same: healthy minded, happy, and content with my life.
Thank you Elizabeth for all you did for me and for all the lives that you have changed for the better.
